Educate Minds

Summary

We educate minds through the provision of college scholarships for lower socio-economic and disadvantaged inner city youth in Los Angeles County.  We assist in preparing our middle school youth for college and to become tomorrow’s leaders. Guidance is given for SAT testing and college selection.  The youth are given cultural enrichment  by participating in college tours and other social events to expand their minds and world views.   We provide tutorial programs, mentors and role models for the youth of our communities.

Our Programs

  • College Scholarships: Our general scholarships are awarded to current year high school seniors and adults between the ages of 25 to 40 years who have decided to pursue a college education.  We annually award an earmarked scholarship for a high school graduate who will attend Howard University in the fall after graduation and for a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School (located on 41st St., Los Angeles).

"Hey Judge Mablean. I know it’s been a while since we’ve last spoken. I am sending this email to give you an update about my college experience thus far. At the start of the fall semester I joined a few clubs,  volunteered in the surrounding area of my school and finished out the semester with a 3.2 GPA. Amid some very unpleasant events on campus including a murder and some on campus robberies, I continued to keep a level head. Being in this culture rich environment has brightened my outlook on different lifestyles. I am very privileged considering that I come from a underprivileged city. Now I am in the beginning of the Spring semester and am starting out strong. I am still participating in several clubs. I look forward to filling out plenty of more scholarship, job, and internship applications for the communications, public relations, and English fields for the upcoming summer.Thank you again for everything you’ve done. I look forward to hearing from you soon."

“It is with a heart full of gratitude and appreciation that I write this thank you note. I want to thank you all profusely for the scholarship awarded to me and the great work that you do especially for our community. I am a recent recipient of your scholarship on June 17th when you awarded me a $1,000 scholarship to Howard University. I was pleasantly surprised to receive the invitation to attend the H.U.F. celebration and to be in the midst of such wonderful people. It is a well-orchestrated event. It is such an honor to finally meet you, Judge Mablean. May God bless you for your abundant heart. I traveled to Washington DC in August to start my next phase of life at Howard University. I will eternally remember your grace and help when it was needed and you provided. I will make you proud of me. I went to Washington DC with the understanding that when “you are up, you reach down to pull someone else up”. Thank you for the delicious brunch. Thank you for the dignitaries, guests and notable celebrities like yourself, Ms. Vivica A. Fox, Dawn Lewis and more. May God continue to bless you in all your future endeavors.”
